A former co-owner of a Watertown auction barn was sentenced to 90 days in jail and ordered to pay $7,100 in fines and restitution for cattle theft.
Joey Varner, of Pierz, Minn., pleaded no contest in May to an amended charge of grand theft. He initially was charged with aggravated grand theft for allegedly stealing 188 head of cattle from Watertown Livestock that were under control of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court.
A no contest plea means a suspect does not admit guilt but acknowledges there is enough evidence for a conviction.
